Gameboy gets busy again - For IBO title defence against Dominican

International Boxing Organization(IBO) World lightweight champion, Emmanuel “GameBoy” Tagoe is back in the gym to begin his preparations towards his title defence on August 26.

Gameboy, who last fought in December last year, will defend title against Dominican, Argenis Alexander Méndez Zapata at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra, as he tries to get cement his credentials as a world fighter.

Samuel Anim-Addo, the co-manager of Gameboy confirmed the fight date to the Graphic Sports and said though the boxer had never rested since the beginning of the year, he has stepped up his training as now that he knows he has a tough opponent to contend with on August 26.

“GameBoy has been training hard these days, he is really high spirited and ready to defend his title against Zapata”, he told the Graphic Sports in an interview last Thursday.

Tagoe, 30, has fought 28 times including a loss last fought and defeated South African Mzonke Fana at the Bukom Boxing Arena on December 2, 2016, to win his first world title.

Now he defends that title against the-US based Zapata, 31, who has also fought 30 times including five losses and a draw.

He disclosed that the Bukom brawler is aiming to unify all five major titles and would not relent in his efforts in achieving that.

The impending bout will be put together by BabyJet Promotions under boxing financier and GameBoy Manager, Asamoah Gyan.
