Clottey eyes world title after bruising American opponent
Joshua Clottey made a triumphant return into the ring last Saturday and scored a unanimous points victory over American Dashon Johnson in their light-middleweight contest at the Paramount Theatre, Huntington, in New York.

The one-sided fight travelled the full 10 rounds, with two judges awarding victory in all 10 rounds to the Ghanaian, while the third gave just one round to the 25-year-old American.
Judges Ron McNair and Tony Paolillo both scored it 100-89, while John McKaie had it 99-90
“He was very well conditioned; he came very prepared,” Clottey told Graphic Sports from his New York base after the fight.
“It was a good fight, but I admire his strength and general conditioning.
“I went in for a quick knockout because I felt he didn’t belong to my class, but he proved quite capable of withstanding all the hooks and shots.
“He bled from the nose for almost all the 10 rounds, but he still survived,” he said of Johnson’s gritty show.
Reports said referee Arthur Mercante Jr, who also refereed Clottey’s loss to Miguel Cotto in the WBO welterweight fight in 2009, ducked the American one point for persistent fouling.
Clottey, now promoted by Star Boxing Promotions, said he was looking forward to a world title shot by the middle of next year after impressing in last Saturday’s fight, his second win in as many fights since moving up in weight.
“There are two opponents being discussed, both of them are involved in title fights in October and November,” he said.
“I look forward to the future with high hopes,” he added.
