Mr Captain, whose administration was dissolved three months ago by the National Sports Authority, has also picked up forms to contest the elections as a president.

Meanwhile, Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) presidential contender, Peter Zwennes, says he won’t fail to deliver and is ever-ready to perform to his utmost best if given the nod as the next boss of the pugilistic sport.

In a brief encounter with the Youth and Sports Minister, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, at the Attoh-Quarshie Gym last week, Zwennes - a lawyer by profession - said he would make it his foremost objective to ensure all boxing gyms nationwide acquired standard boxing equipment and rings for the effective grooming and training of talents in the profession.

He told the Minister that his zeal to ensure Ghana boxing reclaimed its lost pride and rank among the topmost sporting disciplines in the country would fully be realised should he eventually assume the helm of affairs of boxing in Ghana.

The Minister, on his part, lauded the efforts of Zwennes at seeing to the growth and development of the sport, while wishing him well in his bid to win the GBA top seat.

During the week, Zwennes, who doubles as the vice chairman of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), paid familiarisation visits to some boxing gyms and training centres in James Town and Bukom in Accra to acquaint himself with the state of Ghana’s premier gyms.
