Banku, Powers in war of words ahead of May 16 bout
Controversial boxer, Michael Ayitey Powers, has pledged his commitment to the much-anticipated cruisierweight fight against Braimah Kamoko, alias Bukom Banku, on May 16 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Yesterday the two boxers came face to face during a press conference at the Accra Stadium to announce their readiness for the non-title bout. They both traded words and vowed to kill each other in the ring on “Judgement Night”.
The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) and promoter Alex Ntiamoah Boateng both expressed their delight that the much-publicised bout had been sealed after Powers signed the fight contract last Monday after an initial delay.
The fight was originally sanctioned for April 18 but was cancelled after Powers requested for postponement. It was later rescheduled for May 16 in Accra.
Powers explained again that he pulled out of the April 18 fight on the advice of his spiritual father whom he revered so much but now believes the time is right to face his Bukom nemesis.
Bukom Banku lauded the decision by Powers to agree to fight on the rescheduled date.
Undefeated Kamoko said he would not only knock out Ayittey Powers, but would also give him the beatings of his life.
“I am happy Powers has now agreed to fight me. This is the chance for me to kill him in the ring, so all boxing fans should be at the Accra Sports Stadium to be part of this execution exercise ,” Banku threatened.
Powers, who was widely criticised for the manner in which he pulled out of the April 18 bout, told the Daily Graphic that his spiritual father had given him the green light to fight on the new date.
“I wasn’t afraid of Banku in the first place, but my spiritual father told me not to fight on Easter Friday and as a Christian, I respected his views, so I had to pull out, ” Powers explained.
