The late Kotey Dzanie, popularly known as “Coach Alloway” died last Friday at a hospital in Accra.

Alloway was the lead trainer at the Attoh-Quarshie Boxing Gym, a technical director of Landmark Promotions and a member of the United Boxing Coaches Association (UBCA).

In a career spanning over three decades, the 56-year-old mentored most of the nation’s illustrious boxers, including Ike Quartey, Joshua Clottey and George Ashie.

An executive member of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), Alhaji Tofiq, told the Daily Graphic that the demise of the former Black Bombers coach was a great loss to Ghana.

“Coach Alloway was a well-respected coach; he commanded great respect among the boxing fraternity and his loss would be a great loss for boxing”.

He said the GBA would meet later this week to determine when to visit the bereaved family and console them.

Meanwhile, the General Secretary of UBCA, Abdul Rasheed Williams, alias Believer, has hailed the exploits of his former mentor.

“Coach Alloway was very humble and respected everybody. His loss is a great loss to Ghana and all,” he said.

He confirmed that his outfit would meet to plan a befitting burial for the man he called Ghana’s greatest ever local boxing trainer.
