The project, which was initiated by the former NPP MP, Nenyi George Andah, has been hailed by the people for the impact it would have on sports development in the area.

The project is under the auspices of the Coastal Development Authority (CODA) but was engineered by the former member of Parliament for the area who doubled as the deputy minister for communication.

The facility is expected to serve as the backbone for soccer in the constituency which created talents such as Emmanuel Bentil, Michael Essien, Stephen Oduro of Kumasi Asante Kotoko fame, Michael and Benjamin Akuffo, Stephen Awere of King Faisal and others.

Upon completion, it would be one of the modern sports facilities in the country with an artificial field, changing rooms, technical area and floodlights.

During an inspection of the project last Monday, Nenyi George Andah said the turf was the beginning of the creation of a united and inclusive society, where sports would be used as a tool to unite the people.

He added that the project, which is currently being piloted in various communities across the country, would be extended to other communities such as Senya Bereku and Awutu Bereku to help develop more football talents.

‘’It is worth mentioning that I have never regretted bringing this project to the people of Awutu-Senya West Constituency because I could tell from my tour of the site today that the youth are excited and can’t wait to put the project into use after its completion,’’ he said.

The supervisor of the project, Mensah Francis Sosu, said the former MP was satisfied with the work done so far and promised that work would be completed by August this year.

He explained that the project could have been completed earlier but for the COVID-19.
