Some interesting track and field events to watch out for include the 100m, 200m, 400m, long jump, high jump, javelin and discus throw.

Records are set to be broken in this year’s event, according to the organisers.

Martin Obeng, head of the organising committee, told the Daily Graphic that the competition which starts on Thursday and climaxes on Friday would witness 25 Senior High, vocational and technical schools competing for trophies, medals, cash prizes and other honours. 

According to him the two-day sporting fiesta to be opened by Greater Accra Regional Sports Director, Kwame Amponfi Jnr, together with the Regional Chairman of CHOPSS and Proprietor of Jubilee SHS, Andy Sulemana, is aimed at hunting for talents for the various teams within Greater Accra in preparedness for this year’s National Unity Games.

Mr Obeng noted that the event would also be used to tap talents and harness them for the national cause, saying most athletes currently in the national team sprang up through the Private Schools Sports Festival. He mentioned national stars such as Aziz Zakari, Margaret Simpson and Vida Anim as some of the athletes who emerged from the festival.

The competing schools include Talent Restoration Senior High, Ghana College, Apostle Safo, His Majesty, New Generation, Cibusco, Frankwydo SHS, RISSTECCO, Presby Vocational, Hannah Girls, and Pentecost Technical.
