Twum Essel, a 100m runner who has relocated to Ghana after studying in Germany, said the lack of facilities, athletics clubs and regular events on the local scene might mute natural talents.

Essel, who said he wants to run for Ghana, said athletics deserves the attention of authorities to catch up with the likes of football and boxing especially.

“I believe Ghana has a lot of athletics talent, and we can only be encouraged when there are regular competitions. That way, even the fans become involved and it will encourage athletes,” he said.

Essel was based in Bremen in Germany and began running at 13 years.

His personal best in 100m is 10.89secs at a regional competition in Germany last year.
