Flings Owusu-Agyeman could not qualify from the women’s 100m semi-finals as she finished fifth with a time of 11.55seconds in race won by Jamaica’s Veronica Campbell-Brown.

It was a disappointing showing in the heats of the men's 400m events.

Kwaku Acheampong, who ran in the second heat, placed fifth with a time of 47.72secs.

John O’brien also pulled a muscle and was thus unable to finish the race during the fourth heats of the 400m.

Daniel Gyasi completed the day of disappointments as he missed qualification by some seconds, finishing fifth in his race with a time of 47.07secs.

In boxing, there was also no good news as Ghana’s medal hopeful and captain of the Black Bombers, Azumah Mohammed, lost his Round of 16 bout 3-0 against England’s S. Fitzgerald.
