The participants held placards with inscriptions such as “Be enthusiastic about a peaceful and credible election”, “Peace is in our hands” and “Be patriotic, Ghana needs you alive”.

The National Coordinator of the organisation, Ms Adwoa Bame, addressed the women.

She stated that the organisation decided to undertake the exercise because women and children were victims when violence erupted during elections.

“As women, we suffer most with our children when there is violence and we will not look on as the security of our beloved country is compromised in the name of politics,” she stated.

She said the group was “gathered here to reiterate the call for peaceful election” and the need for the leadership of various political parties to urging their supporters to remain calm and committed to peaceful elections.

Ms Bame reminded political parties that there could not be development in the midst of conflict and violence, adding that the disturbing situation in some African countries could be clear examples to avoid.

The Paramount Queenmother of the Anomabu Traditional Area, Nana Mbroba Dabo, underscored the need for all, particularly the youth, to avoid acts that were likely to bring violence and destabilise the country.

“There is the need for us to maintain the current peace in the country and even extend it to December. At the end of it all, we shall be the winners,” she noted.
