Voting at Obuasi East risks cancellation

Voting at Obuasi East in the ongoing national primaries of the National Democratic Congress risks being postponed because the printed ballots are less than the voter population.

The Obuasi District Electoral Officer, Thomas Biyimba, is currently in a meeting with the two contestants, Richard Ofori Agyemang, MCE for Obuasi and his female contender, Hajia Rahinah Bintu Saana for a way out.

Hajia has refused moves by the EC and the MCE to allow voting to go ahead despite the anomaly, saying it was a move to short-change her.

Also voting at New Edubiase has been cancelled due to the same anomaly. The voter register had 12,747 registered people but the ballot papers which were brought in were a little above 8,000.

Meanwhile, voting at Obuasi West has just begun.
