Veep challenges Bawumia on economy

Vice-President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has challenged the running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, to make public the 170 questions he has for him on the country’s economy for the appropriate responses.

Dr Bawumia at a public lecture in Accra in September this year criticised the Mahama administration for what he said was its poor handling of the economy in the last eight years and accordingly raised what he described as “170 facts”, and has since been pursuing Mr Amissah-Arthur to address them.

Bawumia’s questions

Also at a recent national youth rally of the NPP held at Moree in the Central Region, Dr Bawumia accused the Vice-President of ‘running away’ from answering the 170 questions.

“I hear this is Vice-President Amissah-Arthur’s hometown. Is that the case? I have been looking for him. He has 170 questions to answer and he has been running away so tell him I came to his hometown and he should answer the 170 questions,” Dr Bawumia said at the rally.

Veep throws challenge

However, the Vice-President threw the challenge to the NPP running mate stressing, “If he claims to have 170 questions, he should bring the questions. We will give him the answers.”

Addressing a large crowd of National Democratic Congress (NDC) followers at Moree in the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese constituency in the Central Region last Saturday after a health walk, Mr Amissah-Arthur described Dr Bawumia’s questions as claims.

“Bawumia said he had posed 170 statements and claimed that the NDC should answer. Since when did statements and claims become questions? Ask him for me. The lies are many,” he said in Fante to cheering NDC supporters.

The Vice-President said those accusations by Dr Bawumia on the government’s mismanagement of the economy were false, adding, “I think we have to explain to him so he understands.”

Health walk

The Vice-President, accompanied by his wife, Mrs Matilda Amissah-Arthur, and hundreds of enthusiastic NDC supporters made a triumphant entry into Moree on the health walk which began from the Moree junction on the main Cape Coast road with the number increasing as they entered the town.

The first Vice Chairman of the NDC, Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, assured the youth of better job prospects in the second term of President John Mahama as he explained that a solid foundation had been laid for an economic take-off.

Veep ends tour

Mr Amissah-Arthur ended his four-day “Touching Base” campaign tour of the Central Region with a call on Ghanaians to renew their hope in the NDC for the next four years.

Addressing separate mini rallies in the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese Constituency, Mr Amissah-Arthur said the government in the coming years would ensure that every part of the country had its fair share of development.

He introduced the NDC Parliamentary Candidate for the constituency, Dr Samuel Kwesi Hayford, to the electorate, urging them to vote for him to ensure the party retained its majority seats in the region.

The “Touching Base” campaign tour earlier took him to the Gomoa East, Gomoa Central, Agona West, Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam and Mfantsiman constituencies.
