Unemployment situation unpardonable — JOY

The unemployment situation in Ghana is unpardonable, considering the vast natural resource the country is endowed with, Mr Jacob Osei Yeboah has said.

According to the only independent candidate in the 2016 presidential race, popularly known as Joy, “the country, therefore, needs a leader who can think outside the box to create wealth and sufficient employment from Ghana’s natural resources through industrialisation.” He described such a leader as a visionary.

Interacting with the Trades Union Congress (TUC) in Accra last Friday, Mr Yeboah called on the electorate to vote massively for him because he believed in the Ghanaian dream, which was job creation and wealth creation.

“It is unfortunate that God has blessed Ghana with so much potential to create wealth and more jobs in the form of vast natural resources but we are unable to maximise this potential,” he said.

Mr Yeboah defined the Ghanaian dream “as creating wealth and economies out of the numerous natural resources the country is endowed with to create more and sufficient jobs, particularly, for the youth in both the public and private sectors.”

“ What Ghana needs is a visionary leader like me with three per cent  knowledge-based patriotic citizens, to transform this wealth and job creating potential into reality,” he said.

Political philosophy

Asked what his political philosophy was, Mr Yeboah said he believed in appropriatism, which he defined as doing what was right for the people, often in consultation with them.

He  expressed the view that the so-called socialism and capitalism some political parties claimed to espouse had not benefited the country in anyway and added that “rather, it has divided us as a people”.

He said that division had affected national development and the well-being of the citizenry and, therefore, it was time for Ghana to vote for someone who stood for peace, unity, joy and all-inclusiveness.

“That person is an independent candidate because an independent candidate will bring together the best policies and human resources in all political parties to form a government that will do what is appropriate for the people,” he said.

Mr Yeboah presented a copy of his manifesto, which he prefers to call a policy document, to the TUC to symbolise that he had given them the mandate to hold him accountable on his policies.

The TUC took interest in Mr Yeboah’s policy presentations and exhibited that by the numerous clarifications they sought on his policies during a question and answer session to end the interaction.

TUC comments

In his remarks the Secretary General of the TUC, Dr Anthony Yaw Baah, expressed the TUC’s preparedness to collaborate with any government to secure better conditions of service for all workers.

“We have made a resolution to be agents and ambassadors of peace before, during and after the 2016 polls and we will not relent on that commitment,” he added.
