UN body confers highest awards on MP

The Global Public Service, a United Nations (UN) public service functionary facet, at the weekend conferred two special awards on Mrs Freda Prempeh, the Member of Parliament for Tano North,  at a ceremony in Accra.

The International Millennium Medal 2015, and the Order of the Star of the Millennium Africa 2015 of the UN Gold Star Awards, conferred on Mrs Prempeh, according to Mr Wayne W Wiston, the Global Ambassador in-charge of UN Affairs and Foreign Relations, recognized her extra-ordinary contributions to public leadership and development excellence in Africa.


Mr Wiston told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in a telephone interview, that the awards aimed at promoting democracy and economic ties,  to spur developed and developing nations on,  to advance the interest of the UN.

The organization, he said, kept regular contact with all leaderships,  especially missions and diplomatic communities in pursuant of international cooperation, and pursued demographic political and economic issues pertinent to the entire global public of the human family.

Mrs Prempeh said she was delighted at the honour, which according to her,  would inspire her to contribute meaningfully not only to the advancement of democracy in the country,  but the entire African continent.

She expressed her appreciation to the organizers, and was optimistic that due recognition would be given to individual Ghanaians who were contributing significantly to nation building.
