Two assembly members in Effutu not sworn in due to injunction
There were mixed reactions at the inauguration of the assembly members of the Effutu Municipal Assembly when two members were not sworn due to an injunction filed against them by their opponents in the December 17, 2019 district level and unit committee elections.
Although the two, Mr Nathaniel Papa Akyeampong, assembly member-elect for Donkoyianmu/ Obra Wogum and Mr William De-Carthia, assembly member-elect for Ndaamba, were present during the inauguration, they were not sworn in due to the injunction placed on them.

In both cases, the Electoral Commission and the Effutu Municipal Assembly are the first and third respondents.
The application will be moved on Thursday, February 22, 2020 for hearing to begin.
Cape Coast
Shirley Asiedu-Addo reports that 61 people — 48 elected and 21 appointed assembly members — were sworn into the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly.
The Minister of State in charge of Tertiary Education, Professor Kwesi Yankah, who represented the President, reminded the assembly members that the responsibility that came with the honourable title was enormous and urged them to live lives worthy of the titles.
The Metropolitan Chief Executive for Cape Coast, Mr Ernest Arthur, said their successes would be judged by the level of development in the metropolis.
He also urged them to unite for development.
GAMBAGA
The Minister of Business Development, Dr Ibrahim Mohammed Awal, has charged assembly members to rally behind their Metropolitan,
Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to enhance development in their respective areas, reports Mohammed Fugu.
“Without you the MMDCEs cannot function well, so give them the maximum cooperation and rally behind them to ensure that the needed development is brought to your respective electoral areas,” he said.
Dr Awal made the call when he inaugurated the ninth assembly of the East Mamprusi Municipal Assembly at Gambaga in the North East Region.
An educationist, Revered Mrs Grace Alo Wuni Gurmah, was elected as the Presiding Member (PM) of the assembly.
She polled 36 votes to beat his contender, Mr Mahami Sumani, who had only 16 votes.
Madina
Twenty-one assembly members and 70 unit committee members of the La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly were sworn in by Mr Richard Delali Anku of the Madina Magistrate Court, reports Salomey Appiah Adjei.
Due to a court injunction on the Teiman Electoral Area, no elections were held in the area.
The Chief Executive Officer of the La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly, Mrs Jennifer Dede Afagbedzi, told the assembly members that the success of every assembly depended largely on the sub district structures.
She, therefore, urged the assembly members to work effectively with the assembly to promote the well-being of the people.
Nkawkaw
From Nkawkaw, Pacome Emmanuel Damalie reports that 36 new members made up of 26 elected and 12 government appointees were sworn into the Kwahu West Municipal Assembly.
They were sworn into office by the Nkawkaw High Court Judge, Mr Justice Nathaniel Osae.
The assembly members endorsed Mr Emmanuel Boansi Darkwah, the longest serving member, as the Presiding Member, after he secured an overwhelming 35 votes out of 38.
Mr Boansi Darkwah, who stood unopposed, will be serving his seventh term as an assembly member and second successive time as Presiding Member of the assembly.
In his address, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Kwahu West, Mr Yaw Owusu Addo, admonished the assembly and unit committee members to be selfless in their duties and desist from lording themselves over their community members and traditional authorities.
“I want to admonish you to be very circumspect about your duties as assembly members.
You must not think you can do whatever pleases you at the assembly or in your electoral area.
You must not see yourselves above the traditional rulers, thereby creating problems in your areas.
You must endeavour to promote harmony and development in your community and the assembly at large,” he said.
He charged them to remain committed to the service of helping the assembly to raise funds for the development of Kwahu West.
