They have, therefore, lauded the NCCE for playing its constitutional duties of effectively and sustainably educating the citizenry on civic issues in the country.

The Minister for Human Rights and Civic Education in Burkina Faso, Mrs Julie P. Nigna Somda, and the Minister for Communications, Culture, Arts  and Civic Education in Togo, Mrs Koumealo Anate, who led their respective delegations to participate in the just-ended two-day West African sub-regional institutional dialogue on civic education in Ghana, gave the commendation when they spoke to the Daily Graphic.

The dialogue was to help them to learn at first-hand the rich experiences of Ghana’s National Commission for Civic Education, as well as encourage and promote institutional exchange among institutions of civic education from the three countries.

The dialogue was sponsored by Hanns Seidel Foundation, which is in the service of democracy, peace and development.

They revealed that they were in Ghana to learn from the NCCE, as well as exchange ideas on issues concerning good governance.

According to Mrs Nigna Somda and Mrs Anate, “Africans have to network so as to overcome their challenges of finding permanent solutions to the numerous problems facing the continent.”

Mrs Nigna Somda said because of the NCCE, Ghana had rich experiences to share in civic education and participation.

She said it was important to meet from time to time to learn from each other, saying; “ exchange of ideas would allow us to do our work very well to better the life of every citizen.”

Mrs Anate said it was always a useful learning experience to work with NCCE, and described their structural organisation as very impressive.

“The NCCE is independent, effectively organised, operates nationwide and rolls out a lot of activities in every given year,” she stated.

She also said the NCCE’s prominent achievements in the areas of elections and attitudinal change were highly commendable.

“I am not only going to learn from Ghana but the experiences of Burkina Faso as well,” she added.

She stressed the need for countries within the sub-region to put their resources together for the wellbeing of their citizens.
