A two-time flag bearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten, has described the forthcoming national delegates’ congress of the party as an opportunity to elect competent leaders to lead the party into the 2016 general election.
According to him, having lost two consecutive general election and a historical presidential election petition at the Supreme Court, the party needs qualified leaders to work for a resounding victory in 2016.
These observations by Mr Kyeremanten were contained in a goodwill message to the party’s delegates ahead of the conference to be held in the Northern regional capital, Tamale, Saturday.
Advice to delegates
Mr Kyerematen urged the delegates to exercise their franchise by voting for leaders devoid of personal interest or petty consideration.
This step, he said, was in the long run going to benefit the party and help it deliver on its mandate.
Furthermore, he appealed to delegates to elect national executive officers who would heal the wounds of the contest and galvanise the party for total victory in the 2016 polls.
“The party’s chances of winning in 2016 definitely lie in our capacity to quickly regroup and unite solidly to fight as a harmonious entity,” he stressed.
Shunning complacency
He further urged the delegates to eschew all forms of complacency as the party ventured into the 2016 general election, since the ruling government was going to do everything within its power to prove that it won the 2012 elections fairly.
According to him, the party is going to be assured of a resounding victory in the 2016 elections only if the party appoints dignified and competent leaders in the contest.
Let peace reign
Laying further emphasis on the strategies to spur the party on to victory in 2016, the former flag bearer aspirant called on the delegates, as well as other party faithful, to make unity a key cornerstone of the party’s strategic thinking and planning, especially after the Tamale congress.
He observed that the campaign towards the congress, much like any other, had generated some amount of tension but he was optimistic that the congress would be devoid of any complexities and misgivings.
“Let us, therefore, as true democrats, demonstrate our credentials by holding a peaceful congress to the admiration of our well-wishers and to the disappointment of our detractors,” he said.
Flag bearer contest
Since delegates were uncertain about his stand on the flag bearer contest, Mr Kyerematen indicated that he would be battle-ready to contest the flag bearer position of the party at the appropriate time.
“I don’t think that so far I have left anybody in doubt as regards my readiness and intention to do so, but just in case anybody still has any doubt, my answer is Yes! I am still ready and will contest when the time comes,” he disclosed.
