Speaker lauds private initiatives in dev

 

Some top government officials have lauded private initiatives in the development of the country.

The Speaker of Parliament, Mr Doe Adjaho, and the Chief Executive Officer of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Dr Alfred Okoi Vanderpujie, at a ceremony in Accra, asked for support for the private sector, especially fully-owned Ghanaian companies to create job opportunities, wealth and prosperity.

They were speaking at a thanksgiving service organised by the management and staff of Zoomlion Ghana Limited and Jospong Group of Companies over the weekend.

 The service was to show the appreciation of the staff to God for seeing them through the year in spite of the challenges the company faced.

The occasion, which climaxed a week-long activities of thanksgiving, also brought together some Members of Parliament, ministers, metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives, assembly members, leaders of the various religious bodies, musicians, as well as stakeholders of the company.

Guest speaker’s address

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Adjaho lauded Zoomlion for its positive contributions to the development of the country saying that, “when people sacrifice for the country, we celebrate them.”

The Speaker said the company had for sometime now been in the forefront to keep the environment clean. 

Mr Adjaho said a company that contributed to the development of the country and had employed many people should be encouraged even when facing challenges so that workers could be assured of their jobs.

He said there was the need for Ghanaians to support Ghanaian companies and celebrate them for their effort, adding that only Ghanaians could develop Ghana.

In his remarks, Dr Vanderpuije lauded the effort of the company for its contribution towards waste management in the country.

He further assured the company of the assembly’s continuous collaboration with the company and other waste management companies to meet its aim and target of getting the country rid of filth.

The CEO’s address

Addressing the gathering at the service, the Chief Executive Officer of Zoomlion, Dr Joseph Siaw Agyepong, said though the year had been a difficult one, he was appreciative of the support of management and staff who stood firmly behind the company.

 “We will not fail and we will not fall,” he added.

He said management was also mindful of the fact that the company was for the people of Ghana and that it would not intentionally do anything that did not conform to the Godly and earthly values of the company. 

“This company was not founded on a business plan but on God’s own idea. We look forward to 2014 with great prospects and hope,” he added.

Background to the service

The thanksgiving service dates back to the early 1990’s and associated with the establishment of the Jospong Printing Press.
