Sole independent candidate introduces running mate

With barely two weeks to the crunch 2012 general elections in the country, the only independent candidate in the race, Mr Jacob Osei Yeboah, has finally outdoored his running-mate, Mr Kelvin Nii Takie, 41, who hails from NII Teiko Tsuru We, of the Akropong Royal House.

The move by Mr Osei Yeboah finally brings to an end the long standing silence over who is to partner him as running mate in the upcoming December polls.

Unlike the other presidential candidates who specially organised their own platform to announce their running mates, Mr Osei Yeboah on the other hand took advantage of "Maanya Moho Afehye" at New Ebu in the Central Region where he had gone to grace the occasion as the special guest of honour to break the news.

Addressing the people, Mr Osei Yeboah stressed the significance of peace and unity in a nation's development and entreated the chiefs and people of New Ebu to approach the upcoming polls with the spirit of nationalism and love for country.

He said the time has come for Ghanaians to look beyond partisanship and to vote for people who will not foment trouble because according to him some political parties are clearly showing the tendency of plunging the country into anarchy, all in the name of seeking political power.

In his acceptance speech, Nii Takie expressed gratitude to the chiefs and people of New Ebu for the warm embrace.

He asked all Ghanaians to make peace the soul objective of the upcoming elections.

Nii Tackie said “it is important for us to go to the polls and still have our lives and the peace we have enjoyed over the years so as to forge ahead for our national development”.

He emphasised the need to have a government that would not be entangled in any web of nepotism and selfishness, but a government that was made up of Ghanaians from all walks of life who were committed to fight for the re-establishment of a national development agenda which would seek to satisfy the urgent needs of Ghanaians.

The two have since moved to the Ashanti Region to continue their campaign.
