The Chairperson of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Ms Samia Nkrumah, has been awarded for her commitment to follow and fulfil the vision of her father, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first President.
The award was in recognition of her efforts at realising a self-reliant, peaceful and united Africa.
The Pilosio International Building Peace Award, launched in 2011 by an architect in Italy, seeks to grant recognition to those who initiate and promote a peaceful atmosphere of tolerance and social cohesion between cultures.
Every year, an event is organised simultaneously to feature culture and economics, bringing together important guests, the sector’s major players and key institutional figures.
Since its establishment in 2011, some Italian architects have been awarded. They include Mario Collavino, the first to be awarded, followed by Mario Cucinellain in 2012 and Cameron Sinclair in 2013.
To commemorate Ms Nkrumah’s efforts at realising her father’s vision, the organisation has decided to construct a presidential library in Ghana, which will be dedicated to the legacy of Dr Nkrumah.
The project will have a restaurant/café, a library, a workshop, a children’s library and an auditorium.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, the President of Pilosio International Building Peace Award, Mr Dario Roustayan, said the library would primarily be an interactive place for the exchange of experience in training, economics and culture in Africa.
He also said the library would be utilised by many stakeholders, including the youth of Ghana and those who want to contribute to the building of a new model for Africa, which is “An Africa which must unite in the name of freedom and justice.”
Mr Roustayan said the library would also serve as a store of knowledge and catalyst for social change in Ghana and other African countries. He, therefore, commended Ms Samia Nkrumah for her charisma and dedication in championing the rights of Africans in the country.
“She has been behind many projects with enormous social impact on the district which she represented for four years and is also committed to empowering women in the society,” Mr Roustayan added.
Samia’s response
The Chairperson of CPP, Ms Samia Nkrumah, said the vision of her father was to restore the country’s dignity and confidence of the people and contribute to the progress of the country.
“We, as a country, have always enjoyed a good relationship with Italy and we recall and appreciate the contribution made by Imbregilo to the construction of the Akosombo Dam, which has continued to serve us well,” she said.
She commended the organisation for their dedication and support for realising the vision of Dr Nkrumah and added that “his thoughts remain a guiding light for developing a socially cohesive and united society.”
