Samia for President?

Samia Yaaba Nkrumah, the only daughter of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, the first President of the Republic of Ghana and the celebrated icon of Africa, has staked her claim to become the President of Ghana, nearly 50 years after the overthrow of her father.

Samia, who is the current chairperson of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), which was proscribed after Dr Nkrumah’s overthrow in 1966, said this to supporters and leaders of the party at the packed GNAT Hall in Kumasi during the election of the Ashanti regional executive of the party.

She addressed the gathering on her recent two most important topics— the fight against genetically modified organism (GMO) and the CPP and the People’s National Convention (PNC) unity talks.

Samia, who was once the Member of Parliament (MP) for Jomoro, said: “The momentum of the unity talks between the CPP and the PNC has inspired me to contest for the position of the flag bearer of the united party.”
Madam Nkrumah stated this at a gathering that included the 2012 presidential candidate of the CPP, Dr Abu Sakara Foster.

Unity Talks

Speaking on the unity talks, Samia said the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the CPP would meet this month and offer their consent to the discussions so far about uniting the CPP and the PNC, where they would present a common presidential candidate for the 2016 general election.

She, however, assured the gathering that a CPP/PNC government would continue from where Nkrumah left off and that the youth would be put to work while the Ghanaian economy would be turned around to be self-sustaining.
