Retain Agona West NPP chairman to consolidate victory in 2020

Agona Youth for NPP, a youth group within the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Agona West Constituency, has called on delegates of the party to consolidate the victory of the NPP in the 2020 elections by voting massively for the incumbent Chairman, Mr Kojo Addo, in the upcoming constituency election.

According to the group, Mr Addo stood tall among those vying for the constituency chairmanship position,  and therefore called on the delegates to ensure his re-election to enhance the fortunes of the party in the area.

They stated that the current chairman had made the party very attractive to the youth in particular and embarked on a vigorous grass-roots campaign that enabled the party to recapture the parliamentary seat, as well as win the presidential election in 2016.

Interview

The Operations Director of the group, Mr Daniel Kojo Kratiah, popularly referred to as ‘Asonaba Joe Cedi’, told the Daily Graphic in an interview at Agona Swedru that Mr Addo, after taking over the party in opposition, together with the other executive members, managed to bring the party back to power.

He said the current chairman, who had occupied various positions in the party, had been tried and tested, adding that in terms of party organisation and effective party leadership, he was ahead of other candidates, hence their decision to throw their weight behind him in the interest of the party.

Keen contest

There is a keen contest for various constituency positions in the party with candidates embarking on vigorous campaigns to ensure they win.  Though the constituency is not awash with posters of individuals contesting the various positions, this paper is reliably informed that two other individuals are contesting the chairmanship position.

They are Mr Victor Benjamin Aggrey, an Agona Swedru-based businessman who lost the position to Mr Addo in the last election, and Alhaji Gibrien Tanko Toye, a second Vice Chairman of the party in the constituency.

Mr Kratiah added that the chairman’s decision to open party offices at Nyakrom, Nkum, Bobikuma and Abodom made it easier for party organisation in the other major towns towards the victory in 2016.

‘The NPP in Agona West needs an honest, faithful and loyal chairman who will work hard to ensure that the party hold on to power in 2020,’ he pointed out.

Party is united

Sharing his thoughts on the seeming disunity in the party, Mr Addo dispelled the assertion that there was serious division among party leadership in the constituency, describing such information as untrue and noting that they were calculated attempts by his opponents to discredit him.

He added that his opponents had no message and had, therefore, resorted to a smear campaign against him, adding that there was no bad blood between him, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Mrs Cynthia Morrison, and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mrs Justina Marigold Assan.
