Residents call for appointment of hardworking people

Some residents in the Brong Ahafo Region have called on President John Dramani Mahama to appoint a hard working  and well-respected male citizen of the region to partner Nana Saa Gyamfuaa II, for the region on the Council of State.

Nana Saa Gyamfuaa, Queen of Anyima in the Kintampo South District, was elected as the regional representative for the Council of State.

They were of the opinion that Mr J. H. Owusu Acheampong after his election in 2009, the late President Mills appointed Madam Cecilia Johnson to represent the region on the Council of State.

They observed that in the same vein, it would be a good partnership to bring a well-respected male to partner the queen from Brong Ahafo to advice President John Mahama to prosecute his vision for the speedy development of the country.

When they were asked who they thought could partner Nana Gyamfuaa, they mentioned names including, the Omanhene of Banda Traditional Area, Nana Kwadwo Sito, Lt. Col. (Rtd), E. K. T. Donkor, Ghana's Ambassador to Cote d' Iviore, Mr Kwabena Kyere, a former Deputy Minister of Education and the Council Chairman of the Berekum College of Education, Nana Adjei Ampofo, a lawyer and a former Member of the Council of State, the Omanhene of Techiman, Oseadeeyo Akumfi Ameyaw and Omanhene of Achensua Traditional Area, Agyewodin (Prof) Adu Gyamfi Ampem .

They expressed their satisfaction about the election of a woman to represent the region on the Council of State.

According to them, it was refreshing that it was the first time a woman in the person of Nana Saa Gyamfuaa, has won a hitherto male-dominated Council of State election in the region.

They were of the opinion  that the courage exhibited by the queen in contesting a political stalwart such as J.H Owusu Acheampong was what was needed for the empowerment of women and their accession to public office.

They also commended President John Mahama for appointing Dr Henry Seidu Daannaa,  a visually challenged  person as Minister-designate for Chieftaincy and Traditional Affairs.

They, however, appealed  to some traditional rulers kicking against Dr Daannaa because he is a visually challenged person to review their stand and give him the needed support.
