Mr Julius Debrah heads to the Flagstaff House

Prez Mahama removes Bani, appoints Debrah as Chief of Staff

President John Dramani Mahama has relieved Mr Prosper Bani as Chief of Staff and appointed Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Julius Debrah, to replace him.

A statement from the Flagstaff House, which was said to have been signed by the Minister for Communications, Dr Edward Omane-Boamah, said Mr Debrah would be assisted by Deputy Minister for Works and Housing, Johnny Osei Kofi.

The statement said Mr Bani had been appointed “Ambassador Extraordinaire and plenipotentiary” while Baba Issifu Kamara, a Senior Adviser for Special Duties, is the new National Security Adviser.

William K. Aboah has also been appointed an Adviser responsible for the restructuring of NACOB into a Commission and will assume the Chairmanship of NACOB when the Board is constituted, the statement added.

Changes at the Flagstaff House this year has already seen the exit of Communications Adviser to the President, Ben Dotsei Malor, and Executive Secretary to the President, Dr. Raymond Atuguba.

On February 4, 2015 the President announced changes at the Flagstaff House, and  hinted that others were on the way in the next few days.

The presidency explained that the Communications Advisor and Spokesperson for the President , Mr Ben Dotsei Malor, and the Secretary to the President, Dr Raymond Atuguba, had concluded their contract with the  government.

Mr Malor who joined the Flagstaff House Communications Bureau in January, 2014 had completed his term of contract and was returning to his former place of employment, the United Nations, from where he took a year’s leave of absence, a statement from the presidency said.

The statement said the Minister of Communications, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, would act as spokeperson for the President until further notice.

With regrads to Dr Atuguba, the statement said he had returned to the University of Ghana after completing a two-year Sabbatical leave at the Office of the President.

Dr Atuguba had been a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Law of the Univeristy of Ghana.

The Cabinet Secretary, Mr Roger Angsomwine was asked to act as Secretary to the President.

The statement said the development was part of “changes that will be taking place at the Flagstaff House over the next few days.”
