President urged to strengthen state institutions

Citing some examples, Bishop Asare said currently, traders had converted pavements in most cities into trading points thereby disrupting both vehicular and pedestrian movement.

Bishop Asare said drivers also disobeyed traffic regulations, leading to needless road accidents, pointing out that “it is as if there are no institutions in place to ensure that drivers comply with the road law.”

He said students and the youth had also taken the laws into their hands destroying school and public property as there were no appropriate authorities and institutions to bring them to order.

He also expressed unhappiness about the wanton destruction of the environment through bad practices by individuals thereby depleting the country’s natural resources, and said “everybody is doing whatever he likes as if there is no authority in the country”.

Bishop Asare, therefore, entreated the President to step up his effort in ensuring that heads of institutions worked harder while those who failed were sanctioned.

He said indiscipline had the tendency to undermine the implementation of any good programme by the government and urged religious bodies and the public to pray fervently for the President and people in authority to ensure that the year 2013 became a prosperous one.
