President Mahama rounds off B/A tour with impressive rally

An impressive  turnout of National Democratic Congress  (NDC) supporters at a party rally in Techiman last Thursday added to President John Dramani Mahama's confidence in his party to clinch a decisive victory in the December 7 general election.

As he strode onto the stage and looked at the multitude in front of him, he declared, "I don't fear anything because God is on our side. We shall win the elections."

He added, “I was planning to ask you whether you want me to continue as President, but looking at the massive crowds here and the euphoria, I am more than convinced that you have already endorsed my re-election”, he said to wild cheers from the party faithful.

It was the final rally on the third day of his campaign tour of the Brong Ahafo Region,  and  thousands  of NDC supporters were  in a festive atmosphere at the Techiman Zongo L/A School Park with the crowd spilling into the adjoining streets.

The President said, "This is the biggest rally I have seen here in Techiman in my political career. This is the mother of all rallies.”

President Mahama spoke in the evening - at about 8 p.m.-  and the party  supporters who had waited for him for hours cheered him on.

The NDC flag bearer had earlier campaigned in Jema, where his wife, Lordina Mahama, hails from.

An electrifying atmosphere was also witnessed at the Jema rally with the town virtually under invasion by the large number of NDC supporters.

Achievements

With his wife by his side, the President, who is seeking a second term spoke for about 30 minutes, telling the crowd what his government has achieved in the first term and what an NDC government would do in his second term to build on the achievements chalked up.

"Our achievements are unmatched", he said, and added that that called for  the electorates to retain the NDC.

He said evidence of the impressive performance of the NDC government was clear across the country.

He, however, stated that a lot of work still remained to be done. "I have not stood anywhere to say we have finished all the work in front of us. Rome was not built in a day”, he said.

Leadership qualities

Briefly, President Mahama  touched on the qualities of a good leader, especially the one who wants to lead the nation.

The President used the  analogy of a car owner and the choice of a driver to explain who was better placed to lead the nation as President.

He questioned how a car owner, in his right sense, would give his car to an inexperienced driver when already, he had an experienced driver.

President Mahama said it was God who made him President and once God was on his side, his opponents could not succeed with their diabolical plans.

"They (opponents ) say they have not seen anything good about my government,  but the good people of Ghana appreciate our good work", he said.

The General Secretary of the NDC,  Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, also spoke at the rally.
