Currently, the regional secretariat, through its constituency secretariat, had received five applications from individuals expressing interest to contest the seat on the ticket of the PNC should there be a by-election.

A statement signed by the Regional Secretary of the PNC,Mr Henry Fatchu, stated that as part of the preparations, the party had held a Regional Executive Council (REC) meeting to discuss the fate of the applicants. It said the REC had subsequently invited the applicants to draw a road map so as to evolve the best strategies in order to win the seat.

"As a matter of fact, we are managing the situation leading to the selection of a suitable, marketable, resourceful and winnable candidate; we are also in serious consultation with the applicants and building bridges to reach a consensus to bring all on board when the campaign starts,"the statement noted.

It expressed the party's optimism of winning the seat because "we will cut across all the political divide with a candidate that is vibrant, knows and understands the needs of the people, as well as a candidate who is well connected and popular among his constituents".

According to the statement, the PNC was putting resources together and the message for the campaign would be "people-centred that will strike the hearts of the electorate’’.

Economic conditions

It further stressed that "generally the conditions and cost of living is deteriorating as days pass, while health service delivery is gradually becoming inaccessible to the rural folks and that the party was confident of making inroads into the by-elections"

Background

Since the incumbent New Patriotic Party(NPP) Member of Parliament for Talensi, Mr Robert Doameng Moasure, was recently installed the Chief of Tongo in the Talensi District, the development has engendered a lot of debate among political activists who see the move as a fertile ground to grab the Talensi seat should there be a by-election.
