A number of political leaders and parties in the country have described the death of the former United Nations Secretary-General, Mr Kofi Annan, as a great loss to the nation and the global community

The Convention People’s Party (CPP) described his death as a “big blow” to Ghana and the world.
According to the party, Kofi Annan’s life and work on peace and justice positively impacted the world and individuals.
The chairman of the party, Professor Edmund Delle, said: “Globally we have lost a great, wonderful man of peace and principles, whose works transformed and contributed to global peace.”
“The leadership of Mr Annan as the UN Secretary-General raised the profile of the global body, created numerous platforms for peace and deepened the democratic pillars across the globe,” he added.
Prof. Delle, on behalf of the CPP, conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the family and people of Ghana, adding “may his death be marked with peace and a sense of togetherness”.
The CPP Chairman said the late Annan had an enduring legacy which all must be proud of.
“Kofi was a man of peace, who never gave up his identity as a Ghanaian and African. We must project our identity across the globe. May his soul rest in peace.”

My heartfelt condolences to the World, the UN and especially Ghanaians and more especially to his immediate family, he stated.
According to Mr Yeboah, “the April 1938 Octogenarian, Kofi Annan, was born in Ghana to be a son of the world.
Especially, he said that Mr Annan lit the minutest beacon flame of hope in the darkness of ignorance on the African continent about good governance and geopolitics.
His last words to Africa was instructive and quite phenomenal, thrusting through the heart for contemplation and debate at the World's Changers Summit in Namibia. He stated, "Africa has great values to depend upon, Africa could be independent but we have too many old men at the presidency, some are above 70 years, and what do you expect them to do?
The World has indeed lost a gem of transformational leadership, he added.
“May his diplomatic soul rest in peace as he crosses the dark veil curtain at the horizon of life in yonder. RIP Busumuru. Adieu Dr Kofi Annan”, Mr Yeboah concluded.
NDC and GCPP
From their official Twitter page, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) said “Our nation has lost her foremost diplomat. Simple yet elegant, Kofi Annan represented the finest in diplomacy,” the statement added.
It stated that he dedicated his life to the pursuit of world peace and he was an inspiration for many people, especially people of African descent.

Born on April 8, 1938, in Kumasi, he died at age 80.
Adored by all as a true national hero in Ghana, news of his passing has brought enormous pain and grief to many.
He died in the early hours of Saturday in the Swiss capital, Berne, after a short illness.
Mr Kofi Annan served as the seventh Secretary-General of the United Nations from January 1997 to December 2006.
As the Secretary-General, Mr Kofi Annan reformed the UN bureaucracy; worked to combat HIV, especially in Africa; and launched the UN Global Compact.
After leaving the UN, he founded the Kofi Annan Foundation in 2007 to work on international development.
