Okoe Vanderpujie assures constituents of development
An aspiring Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ablekuma South Constituency, Mr Alfred Okoe Vanderpujie, has assured the constituents of total development when given the nod to represent them in parliament.

Mr Vanderpujie, who is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), vying under the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), said his executive experience in the assembly, as well as the success he had chalked up over the years was proof that he would be able to bring development to the people.
Additionally, he said having been able to use his skills to transform the city in the last couple of years, it was going to be easy for him to bring change to the constituency, while making a concrete and quality contribution to local governance.
The elections
Mr Vanderpuije, who has been the CEO of the Accra for the past six years, was cleared by the NDC to contest the Ablekuma South parliamentary seat in the party’s upcoming primaries on November 21, 2015.
He is facing competition from Mr Wisdom Nii Amoo Dodoo, a businessman who is contesting for the third time for the parliamentary slot on the same ticket.
The incumbent MP for the constituency, Mr Fredric Fritz Baffour, is not contesting.
During the 2012 primary, Mr Doodo garnered 230 votes but lost to Mr Baffour, when he polled 241 votes, making the parliamentary race a tough one for the chief executive who is competing for the first time.
However, some members of the party say though Mr Vanderpujie is joining the race for the first time, they were assured of his victory come 2016 as the people in the constituency have come to accept and lauded his achievements at the AMA over the years.
The constituency, since it was created, has been fairly represented by the NDC in 1992, 2008, and 2012 and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 1996, 2000, and 2004 in parliament.
Launch of campaign
According to Mr Vanderpujie, he has the connections and the experience to tap into resources both locally and internationally and to bring investors directly to Ablekuma South to ensure continuous development.”
The aspirant gave the assurance when he officially launched his campaign last Sunday as the aspiring MP for the Ablekuma South constituency.
The event, which was characterised with a street procession in the constituency, was attended by hundreds of party supporters, dressed in party colours and chanting party songs to assure him of victory.
Job creation
Mr Vanderpujie said one of his priority areas when given the nod would be job creation for the people in the constituency through economic empowerment activities.
“I am, therefore, asking the people of Ablekuma South to trust in me, to believe in me, look at my job experience and know that a vote for Okoe Vanderpujie means development for the people of Ablekuma South”, he said.
Additionally, he said with his vast network within the business environment, he was going to draw investors into the constituency to enhance fishing activities in the area, as well as improve the drains and the roads in the area.
He, however, urged the constituents, as well as members of the party to remain united in all their endeavours in order for NDC to retain the seat in 2016.
