Offinso Traditional Council has taken a swipe at the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Offinso South, Baffuor Kese-Amankwa, for mal-administration that had brought the progress of the municipality to a halt.
The council said Offinso, unlike other areas in the region, had not seen any development during the reign of the MCE, and, therefore, called on him to wake up from his slumber.
But the MCE, in a reaction, said his three-year reign had seen significant strife in the area.
The occasion was the 10th anniversary celebration of Offinso-Monchengladbach Sister-City Relationship for which the MCE was at the Traditional Council to brief the chiefs of his return from the Monchengladbach in Germany after leading a delegation there.
The MCE was accompanied on the trip by the Chief of Mpehe in the Traditional Area, Nana Osei Sarpong.
The representatives of the various Divisional Chiefs and the Chief Linguist, who spoke initially, commended the MCE and the delegation for their trip and urged the MCE to take advantage of it.
As if planned, all the speakers then turned to the MCE, and accused him of lack of progress during his administration.
The President of the council, Nana Wiafe-Akenten, accused the MCE of mal-administration because according to him, he had not witnessed any progress in the municipality, pointing it out that the road network was very poor.
He stressed that there were three big markets at Abofour, Kokote and Anyinasuso and that revenues generated from the markets could help develop the area.
He called on the MCE to involve the traditional authorities in his administration because they also had a stake in the area’s development and progress.
Immediately after the meeting, which the media attended, the MCE held a press briefing and said all what the speakers said was part of machinations to taint his credibility.
He said he had a lot to say but thought that any confrontation could create disaffection and intolerance towards him.
He alleged that when he applied for the post of MCE, the Omanhene was sponsoring another contestant and stated that since he assumed office three years ago, he had witnessed incidents which he suspected were being master-minded by the Omanhene.
To buttress his argument, after the press briefing, he took the media to inspect ongoing projects in Offinso Central.
They included construction of a modern abattoir, rehabilitation and expansion of Offinso courts, construction of a drain at Amoadam, installation of streetlights from Asamankuma to Dupul, a 12-unit classroom block for Dentin Methodist Primary and the construction of a new building for the local fire service office.
According to the MCE, the abattoir, which was about 85 per cent complete, has a biogas digester, a mechanised borehole and offices for environmental workers and veterinarians, as well as the manager.
The project, according to him, cost GH¢178,000, and was funded through the Urban Development Grant (UDG) and that it would serve four districts, namely Offinso North, Offinso South, Afigya-Kwabre and Atwima-Nwabiagya.
