Obiri Boahen faces NPP disciplinary committee for “loose-talk’
The leaked tape recording case of Nana Obiri Boahen, the deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been referred to the party’s disciplinary committee for action.
Accordingly, the party has asked Nana Obiri Boahen to refrain from speaking to the media in any official capacity till his issues with the disciplinary committee have been fully resolved.

This was made known in a statement signed and issued by Mr John Boadu, the General Secretary of the NPP on Wednesday evening following a meeting of the National Steering Committee of the party.
According to Mr Boadu, the meeting considered among other issues, the Obiri Boahen's tape recording and related matters.

Leaked tape
Nana Obiri Boahen in the leaked telephone conversation complained about some happenings in the NPP and lamented that he has been side-lined in the sharing of booty.
In the audio, Obiri Boahen alleged that despite being faithful to the NPP even when they were in opposition, he is not benefiting like others.
He among other things alleged that the presidency gave out GH¢50 billion (thought to be GH¢5million) in support of the party’s 2017 delegates conference in Cape Coast.
He alleged he was given only Gh¢3,000 as a member of a committee and an additional GH¢2,000 for fuel for the Cape Coast conference despite the fact that the Flagstaff House gave the party an amount of GH¢50 billion.

Apology
Nana Obiri Boahen following the publication of the tape has admitted he fabricated the allegation to solicit information.
He has accordingly asked for forgiveness for his “indiscretion” in making wild claims about his party, including claims that he has been sidelined from the sharing of political booty since the party returned to power.
In a letter dated March 2, 2018, addressed to President Akufo-Addo, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former President John Dramani Mahama and members of the National Democratic Congress, as well as the steering committee, executive and members of NPP, Obiri Boahen said he has learnt his lessons and vows never again will he repeat his conduct.
“To err is human, and to forgive is divine” he said, insisting the “unfortunate” incident was “secretly recorded and intentionally mutilated”.
"Respectfully; I am by this letter expressing my profound apology to the President; the Vice President, the Chief of Staff, the Steering Committee, the National Executives, Council of Elders, the National Executive Committee, the National Council of the New Patriotic Party and every member of the New Patriotic Party for my indiscretion.

Steering committee decision
“The steering committee, after listening to him [on Wednesday March 8] and taken cognizance of his public apology for the false allegations he had made against the "Flagstaff House" and the party leadership, has referred his conduct to the party's disciplinary committee in accordance with Article 4 of the party constitution,” the statement issued by Mr Boadu on Wednesday evening said.
“The committee has further instructed the Deputy General Secretary, Nana Obiri Boahen to refrain from speaking to the media in any official capacity until his issues with the disciplinary committee have been fully resolved,” it added.
“Finally, the steering committee wishes to use this opportunity to remind members of the party of their duties under Article 3(D) which enjoins them to protect and promote the good name of the party and also remain loyal and truthful to the party's cause at all times.”
