NPP Volta adopts ‘Operation Eagle Eye’ to prevent Togolese from voting on December 7

The Volta regional branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said it has adopted a monitoring strategy that will prevent Togolese from voting in this year’s election.

The strategy, dubbed ‘Operation Eagle Eye’, according to the Regional Chairman of the party, Mr Peter Amewu, would use legal means to prevent Togolese from crossing the Ghana border to vote for freebies.

At a press conference in Ho last Tuesday, Mr Amewu said it was regrettable to note that the General Secretary of the NDC, Mr Asiedu Nketia, had been inciting Togolese to come to Ghana and vote.

The practice of mobilising Togolese to vote, he said, amounted to ‘electoral criminality’ and, therefore, would not be condoned in the upcoming election.

Legal and strategic

With ‘Operation Eagle Eye’ which he described as a ‘legal and strategic approach’ put in place, Mr Amewu said only genuine Ghanaians residing in Togo would be allowed to exercise their constitutional right and franchise.

“We are not going to use physical attacks in this strategy but legal means to prevent such occurrence,” he said, cautioning Togolese to stay away from Ghana’s election in order not to be embarrassed.

The people of the region, he said, had demonstrated that they were not anti-NPP through the massive reception given to the flag bearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, during his recent campaign tour of the region.

Review of agenda for the region

On behalf of Nana Addo, he thanked the chiefs and the people of the region for coming out in their numbers to interact with him.

Mr Amewu said the outcome of the tour had caused a review in their agenda from 3:30 (three parliamentary seats with 30 per cent total vote cast) to 5:50 (five parliamentary seats with 50 per cent presidential votes).

For this reason, the party has adopted the slogan, ‘mi na mia m3-p3p33p3’ to wit, ‘We are sharing it equally’, for their subsequent campaigns.

Making reference to a statement by the Paramount Chief of Ho, Togbe Afede, that the region was not a ‘loyal housewife that waited for her husband only when he was hungry,  Mr Amewu said they were by the review sending strong signals that “Volta Region is no longer the stronghold of the incumbent NDC.”

The region, Mr Amewu said, would return to a path of progress and prosperity when Nana Addo becomes President.

‘Adopt a polling station’ launched

The meeting was also used to launch the ‘Adopt a polling station’ fundraising concept in the region, introduced by the party to mobilise funds for their activities.
