NPP primaries: Owusu-Boateng cries foul

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Asene/Manso/Akroso, Mr. Yaw Owusu-Boateng has expressed grave concern about the unorthodox method the constituency executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) were adopting to unseat him.

He alleged that the entire NPP executives in the constituency always accompanied his challenger in the upcoming primary, Mr. George Aboagye aka Oluwa to the various communities and campaigned for him which was contrary to the NPP constitution.

Mr. Owusu-Boateng also accused the constituency executives of tampering with the album which would be used for the upcoming NPP primary.

According to him, the executives had illegally deleted the names and pictures of some of the delegates who were sympathetic with him and replaced them with those who would vote for Mr. Aboagye.

He cited more than 20 instances to buttress his allegation, mentioning in particular his own nephew, Mr. Collins Amankwah, a former assembly member for Akyem Asene who had left the country for abroad but whose name and picture in the album had been replaced with another person without his (MP’s) consent and knowledge.

Mr. Owusu-Boateng, who was speaking to the Daily Graphic at Akyem Asene on Wednesday, said he had appealed to the National Executive council (NEC) of the NPP to investigate the matter as early as possible in order to create an equal playing field for fair contest in the June 13, 2015 primary in the constituency.

When the Daily Graphic contacted the constituency NPP chairman, Mr. Frank Anim Bediako aka Kalala about the MP’s allegation, he confirmed that the entire executives were campaigning for Mr. Aboagye because Mr. Owusu-Boateng had distanced himself from them as he did not respect them.

He said during the constituency executive election, Mr. Owusu-Boateng sponsored nine candidates all of who lost while those who campaigned on their own with support from Mr. Aboagye emerged victorious.

Mr. Anim Bediako said with massive support from the executives, Mr. Owusu-Boateng would lose the upcoming NPP primary.

When this writer contacted the regional secretary of the NPP, Mr. Prince Aboagye, he said when Mr. Owusu-Boateng reported the matter to the regional NPP executives, they set up a committee to investigate it but the MP later by-passed them and wrote a petition to the National Executive Council (NEC) on the issue.
