NPP Parliamentary Primary: MP for Tatale-Sanguli booted out
The incumbent NPP Member of Parliament (MP) for Tatale-Sanguli, Mr. Cecil James Yanwube lost his seat to Thomas Nsonba in the party's parliamentary primaries in the Northern Region.

Mr. Nsoba, who is a new entrant, polled 154 votes to defeat Mr. Yanwube, who polled 111 votes.
The other aspirants in the race were Kungun Onuga and Jacob Nusuyichin who obtained 11 and four votes respectively.
A former Minister of Local Government and Rural Development during President Kufuor administration, Mr. Charles Bimtin won the Saboba constituency contest with 167 votes to defeat other two aspirants, Mr. Abraham Jawul and Yajaba Shamsudeen who obtained 137 and 20 votes respectively.
Women candidates
Hajia Alima Mahama, a former Deputy Minister of Women and Children in former Kufuor's regime won the Nelarigu constituency contest by defeating his closest contender, Peter Wuni with only three votes. Hajia Alima polled 227 votes while Mr.Wuni polled 224 votes.
The Bole contest which was a straight fight between two women, the former District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bole, Madam Salamatu Forgor and Madam Veronica Alele Heming, the NPP UK-Ireland women's Organiser was won by the latter.
Madam Heming polled 259 votes to defeat the former DCE, Madam Forgor who obtained 117 votes.
The all-female contest at Tamale North constituency went in favour of Hajia Kulsum Mohammed who polled 175votes to defeat her closest rival Madam Safura Fuseini who also obtained 111 votes.

However, there was drama at the venue of the elections, the Tamale School of Hygiene when a supporter of Madam Safura snatched some of the ballot papers, but the police and the military personnel deployed at the venue managed to retrieve the ballot papers from him for counting to continue.
Madam Safura supporters, who were not pleased with the outcome of the elections, claimed Hajia Kulsum was a new entrant and therefore did not deserve to win the contest.
