NPP opens nominations for national elections

 

Fourteen aspirants contesting national positions in the New Patriotic Party yesterday their nomination papers.

The positions  being contested are National Chairperson, First National Vice Chairperson, Second National Vice-Chairperson and Third National Vice-Chairperson. 

Others are General Secretary, National Treasurer, National Organiser, National Women's Organiser and National Youth Organiser.

The three-day filing of nominations, which opened yesterday is expected to close coming Monday, February 10, 2014. 

 

Aspirants

The three who filed their nominations for the National Chairmanship positions were Mr Fred Oware, Jake Otanka Obetsebi-Lamptey, the incumbent and Mr Stephen Ntim. Mr Paul Afoko who is also contesting the chairmanship position is yet to file his nomination.

Hajia Fati Amadu, contesting for the  Vice-chairmanship position, also filed her nomination. She was the first to file in her category.

In the general secretary category, only Mr Kojo Owusu Afriyie filed his nomination, while in the national organiser position, Mr Hopeson Adorye and Mr John Boadu filed theirs.

Mr Kwabena Abankwa Yeboah and Esther Ofori  also filed their papers to contest the Treasurer position. Mrs Tina Mensah, Deputy Women Organiser, who is contesting the National Women Organiser position, has filed her nomination.

Mr Sammy Awuku, Emmanuel Attafuah-Danso and Adu Gyamfi, who are contesting the Youth Organiser’s position, have also filed their nominations,  while Alhaji Abudulai Taminu filed to contest the Nasara Coordinator position, the Muslim youth wing of the party.

According to Mr Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, Director of Election of the party, nominations would be open today to enable more contestants to file their papers before the exercise closes coming Monday, February 10, 2014 to pave the way for the vetting of the contestants.

Mr Korsah reminded the contestants and their party supporters that the rules governing the elections still remained the same so supporters should not engage in politics of insult but rather champion activities that would promote the unity of the party now, during and after the national delegates conference. He added that a clean campaign was what was expected of party activists. He, therefore, entreated the youth to send the campaign message to the grass roots.
