'Novice' George Andah not a threat to me - Hannah Tetteh

The Member of Parliament for the Awutu Senya West in the Central Region, Hanna Tetteh, has expressed confidence that she will beat George Andah who would be representing the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) when they face-off in the 2016 Parliamentary elections in the constituency.

On Saturday, Madam Tetteh secured a landslide victory in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) primary in Awutu Senya West, garnering 4,162, with her closest contender securing 101 votes.

The victory pits the Foreign Affairs Minister against the NPP’s George Andah, a business consultant, in the 2016 parliamentary election.

But speaking to Accra-based Citi FM after her victory, Madam Tetteh dismissed suggestions that Mr Andah has what it takes to unseat her in 2016.

She said: “Who is George? You are talking as if he is some political heavyweight. This is someone who has not contested elections before, who has never been in the political space before and I am supposed to be afraid of him?”

Responding to suggestions that Mr Andah would be entering the race with a lot of experience and financial resources, the Foreign Minister stressed that she was also well-resourced and more experienced than the former MTN Chief Marketing Officer.

“I am the Foreign Minister, I have been Minister of Trade and Industry and I have won this seat twice and I have won an overwhelming mandate in the primaries and I am supposed to be afraid of someone who is, even if you want to be charitable, a novice. You [the media] are the people making George Andah somebody, I do not consider him a threat,” she said.
