The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has set May, this year, as its deadline for the biometric registration of all eligible party members.
The ongoing registration has been successful in the Western Region. Upper East, Upper West and Northern regions will commence the exercise from next week.
The General Secretary of the party, Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, said this at the party headquarters in Accra on Tuesday when the NDC parliamentary candidate for Dome/Kwabenya Constituency in the 2012 general elections, Madam Sophia Karen Ackuaku, presented 10 computers and accessories valued at GH¢25,000 to the party to aid the registration process.
According to him, the party initially had challenges with the biometric registration process but was hopeful the party would be able to work within the deadline to ensure by May ending, every member would get a biometric card.
Mr Nketiah noted that the nationwide biometric registration was important to know the total party members and added that the computers would be useful to the party in the exercise.
He entreated other members of the party to voluntarily follow the footsteps of Madam Ackuaku and help the party achieve its goals in the future.
The chairman of the party, Mr Kwabena Adjei, who received the items, commended Madam Ackuaku for the kind gesture.
He also urged others to emulate the gesture and encouraged all NDC members who want the party to grow to contribute financially to help build the party.
Presenting the item, Madam Ackuaku, who is the Deputy Executive Director of the Ghana National Service, said there was the need to help and support the party, as its constitution was being reviewed and reformed.
In her view, registering members of the party manually was very costly, saying, “this is my small way of supporting the party; I had to present this equipment to help facilitate the registration”.
Madam Ackuaku, therefore, encouraged other members of the party to come out in their numbers to register.
