Nadowli–Kaleo Assembly re–elects presiding member

The Nadowli–Kaleo District Assembly in the Upper West Region has re–elected a retired educationist, Mr Andrew Kpan, as its Presiding Member (PM).

Mr Kpan,  who was the only person to have filed at the close of the nomination, polled 38 votes against six in an election which was supervised by the Electoral Commission.

Addressing the assembly, the Upper West Regional Minister, Mr Abu Kasangbata, who was the immediate past district chief executive for the area, used the opportunity to thank the assembly for its support when he was the chief executive for the district.

He charged the assembly to be united, understanding, have good relations with others and above all, work with all stakeholders to understand the workings of the local government.

He stressed the need for the assembly to ensure collaboration and formulate local policies that were in line with the government’s “Better Ghana Agenda.”

“Do not allow others to infiltrate your ranks and to derail the unity you have built for yourselves over the years as a united assembly, so that it will send a signal to others that Nadowli–Kaleo District Assembly is a united one,” he advised.

Mr Kasangbata congratulated the PM on his re–election and urged him to use his vast experience to rally all other members of the assembly to develop the district.

He was happy that the district had always been a pacesetter and, therefore, called for support for the PM from the assembly members by forgetting about their ethnic and political differences.

In an acceptance speech, Mr Kpan thanked the assembly for the confidence reposed in him and  expressed the  hope that the sense of unity that had prevailed over the years would continue.

According to him, the last two years of his tenure was a learning process and  he was, therefore,  bound to make mistakes but “now the mistakes are over.”
