Muslim mission appeals for sustenance of peace

The Ghana Muslim Mission has appealed to Ghanaians in the country and across the world to desist from any unpleasant acts after the Supreme Court verdict on the election petition in order not to derail the peace the country is currently enjoying.

“We are pleading with everyone to respect the verdict of the court. What is important is the need to keep our nation peaceful and prosperous,” the National Chairman of the Mission, Sheik Dr Amin Bonsu, stated.

The mission called on the petitioners and respondents to speak to their supporters not to engage in acts of violence before or after the Supreme Court’s verdict.

The mission made the appeal through the media yesterday at its headquarters at Korle Gonno in Accra during a congregation of members to break their fast and learn more about the teachings of Islam.

Sheik Dr Amin Bonsu entreated Muslims to live morally upright lives during and after the month of Ramadan. “It would be in vain if anyone goes back to his or her previous life after the Ramadan; this is because it is expected that we continue to live uprightly even after Ramadan,” he stressed.

He called on Muslims to invest in education and encourage infrastructural development, as well as social interventions that would benefit the society at large.

‘’We should build more schools, colleges and health centres to cater for the health needs of the society,” he said.

The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the Ghana Muslim Mission told the Daily Graphic that the mission had charged the various imams in the country to disseminate the message of peace during and after the Ramadan.

‘’They must also educate members to be careful not to go against the Quran during the Ramadan,” he said.

He said the mission had liaised with the National Peace Council to preach and promote peace during and after the election petition verdict.
