Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, Minister for Petroleum and MP

Many welcome Buah’s third term bid in Ellembelle

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ellembelle Constituency in the Western Region, Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has picked nomination forms to seek re-election in the party’s upcoming parliamentary primaries slated for November 7, this year.

Contrary to speculations that Mr Buah was not going to seek re-election, he was at the party’s Ellembelle constituency office on Monday to pick the forms, amidst jubilation by party supporters who had besieged the precincts of the office.

The decision of the MP to seek re-election, according to sources in the constituency, was to secure the interest of the party in the constituency and the region.

Impressed

Mr Buah, who was impressed by the high turn-out of his supporters, declared, “I must say that in the past politics was used to divide us as a people. However, we the people of Nzema made it a principle not to use politics as a divisive tool any longer.”

In the face of glaring development activities embarked upon by the President John Mahama-led government, Mr Buah said, “the people of Nzemamanle, known as one people, decided to make the district the hub of the oil and gas industry and open it up for diverse investments”.

He said the united front put up by the people had made a strong case for the government to meet their infrastructural needs — the construction of good roads and the extension of electricity to almost every town and village in Nzemaland.

He reminded the people that Election 2016 was crucial in many ways and that it was not about the electoral register but ensuring better lives for the people of Ghana.

“We are at the threshold of making history as a constituency and great people of Nzemaland and 2016 will decide whether during the roll call in the future Ellembelle will be remembered,” he said.

He commended the chiefs and people for their support, adding that his success could be largely attributed to the support he received from them as united Nzemas, both home and abroad.

Earlier in a statement, some youth in the constituency, led by Mr Adenyina Minlah, said even before the NDC opened nominations, there were moves by some “senior party members” to pull the MP down by fielding another candidate.

“We want to call on the rank and file of the party in the Ellembelle Constituency that the candidature of Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, who doubles as Minister of Petroleum, should be maintained,” they said.

They said since the election of the MP in the 2008 and 2012 general elections, he had demonstrated quality leadership and was always available to interact with the constituents.

On his appointment as a minister of state, the youth said, the MP had demonstrated selflessness and worked to uplift the name of Nzemamanle.

They said they wanted to urge him not to pull out and that the NDC constituency and regional executives should call the executives and top party stalwarts who are working against the MP to order.
