The Daily Graphic can confirm that all political appointees in the Office of the President from the Chief of Staff to senior advisers to presidential aides were last week given letters thanking them for the services they had rendered to him and the nation in their various positions.

While thanking them for the services, President Mahama, in a statement, indicated that he would be making “certain changes and/or re-assignments of portfolios in the Office of the President”, and asked them to stand by for the changes.

The reasons for the changes which may be affecting all staffers, including those in the Office of the Vice-President, are unclear.

With the expected changes in portfolios and re-assignments, it is anticipated that President Mahama will bring in some new faces to the Presidency, with at least, one other sector minister expected to be moved to the Presidency in the next announcement of ministerial reshuffle.

Spio-Garbrah

Daily Graphic sources indicate that Dr Ekow Spio-Garbrah, a former Minister of State, has been pencilled for appointment to the Presidency, but others also suggest he may land a very important and critical cabinet portfolio instead.

An astute politician, communications expert, investment analyst, church administrator and international relations expert, he will be expected to bring some new blood into the government.

Ministerial changes

President Mahama has within the last one month reshuffled some of his ministers and, fired others.

He brought in fresh blood and elevated others from deputy ministerial positions to substantive ministerial portfolios. The new appointees are currently being vetted by the Appointments Committee of Parliament.
