Lawrence Tetteh eulogises Mandela

Dr Lawrence Tetteh, an international evangelist, has described the late South African President, as a people’s man who left a legacy that changed the world in diverse ways.

He said Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, affectionately called “Madiba” was a true believer of equality, democracy and justice for all regardless of race, colour, religion, creed and sex and was there for the lowly as well as the high in  society.

Dr Tetteh, an economist and Founder and President of the UK-based Worldwide Miracle Outreach, told Ghana News Agency (GNA)  in an interview in Accra on Friday,  that the revered statesman who emerged from prison after 27 years to lead South Africa out of decades of apartheid, “was a great unifier, a freedom fighter with a consciousness of a leader”.

“Mandela is undisputably a hero who taught me the power of true forgiveness. I am so thankful to God that he gave me the opportunity to meet Madiba, a couple of times. I was glad to have known him personally,” he said.

Dr Tetteh who is also the Chaplain of Ghana Christian Council of UK and Ireland, said he had lost a father and a mentor and “may the soul of Madiba rest in peace”.

Mr Nelson Mandela, who was born on July 18, 1918 at Mveso, South Africa, lost the battle against lung infection in his Johannesburg home on Wednesday, December 5.    

The anti-apartheid revolutionary as well as a politician and philanthropist who served as President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999, was one of the foremost African politicians  to be celebrated worldwide for his eagerness to champion justice, peace and reconciliation. - GNA
