The Member of Parliament (MP) for Lambussie in the Upper West Region, Professor Titus K. Beyuo, has appealed to the Ministry of the Interior to withdraw the curfew imposed on Hamile following a deadly explosion that claimed three lives last Tuesday.
He said the curfew was necessary when it was imposed to restore order and prevent further casualties.
But to him, the continued enforcement was imposing unbearable hardship on residents, particularly following the return of calm to the community.

Reconsider restriction
Presenting an urgent statement on the floor of Parliament today (Nov 5), Prof. Beyuo said extensive engagements with community stakeholders had helped restore normalcy.
That, he said, had given him confidence that the prevailing peace in the area was sustainable.
“Following extensive community engagements with all stakeholders, I am convinced that life has returned to normalcy. The calm we have witnessed has come to stay,” he said.
He, therefore, appealed to the Ministry of the Interior and security leadership to reconsider the restrictions, insisting that the curfew had served its purpose.
“The current curfew was timely at the time of imposition and has served its purpose. However, Mr Speaker, the impact on the lives of my constituents is unbearable,” he said.
Prof. Beyuo's appeal follows an explosion at Hamile, a town in the Lambussie Constituency, on November 3, 2026, which resulted in the deaths of three people and left 13 others injured.
Visit
Prof. Beyuo said he, in the company of some security officers, had visited the affected community the day after the incident to commiserate with the bereaved families and offer support to those receiving treatment.
He said he was encouraged by the recovery of the injured persons, adding that he had taken responsibility for their medical expenses.
“I have absorbed all their medical bills and will continue to support the bereaved families to get closure,” he told the House.
Investigation
Prof. Beyuo also called on the security agencies to expedite investigations into the explosion to establish its exact cause and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
He said the findings of the investigations should go beyond establishing what happened and provide the basis for measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
“I further call on the security agencies to expedite the ongoing investigation and unravel the exact cause and related matters.
“It is my hope that the findings from this investigation will proffer long-term mechanisms to prevent similar occurrences in the future,” he said.
He commended the Minister of the Interior and the security services for what he described as their timely intervention, which he said helped prevent the situation from escalating and causing further injuries or loss of lives.
Exercise restraint
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Interior, on the advice of the National Security Council and by Executive Instrument, has reviewed the curfew hours for Hamile township and its environs in the Lambussie District of the Upper West Region to 10:00 pm to 4:00 am, effective Thursday, November 5, 2026.
In a statement issued on its social media handle and signed by the Minister of Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the ministry urged urges chiefs, opinion leaders, youth and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them and to use non-violent means to channel their grievances into ensuring peace in the area.
“Meanwhile, there is a total ban on all persons in Hamile township and its environs in Lambussie District in the Upper West from carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons. Any person found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted,” the statement said.
