Hamile daily curfew hours reduced from 11 to six

The Ministry of the Interior has reduced the curfew hours in the Hamile township and its surrounding communities in the Lambussie District of the Upper West Region from 6 p.m.–5 a.m. to 10 p.m.–4 a.m., effective Thursday, November 5, 2026.

The revision reduces the daily curfew period from 11 hours to six, following a review of the restrictions imposed on Tuesday, November 3, on the advice of the National Security Council and by Executive Instrument.

In a statement signed by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the Ministry said residents were required to remain indoors between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. daily.

The initial curfew followed an explosion on November 3 during a Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) border patrol operation in the Hamile sector. An Immigration officer and two other people died in the incident, while another officer sustained critical injuries and was later transferred to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra.

The GIS said a patrol team had intercepted a man transporting a load on a motor tricycle, which exploded as he attempted to escape. The Service said investigations into the incident had begun.

The Ministry urged chiefs, opinion leaders, the youth and residents to exercise restraint and use peaceful means to channel their grievances.

It said the existing ban on the possession of arms, ammunition and other offensive weapons in Hamile and its surrounding communities remained in force.

The Ministry warned that anyone found in possession of such items would be arrested and prosecuted.
