Jubilation herald Supreme Court judgement at Nima
Streets in the Nima-Mamobi community which were comparatively quiet and deserted on Wednesday, suddenly came alive on Thursday when thousands of residents greeted the Supreme Court’s judgement on the election petition with jubilation.

The court’s verdict affirmed the declaration of Mr John Dramani Mahama as president of the Republic of Ghana. This was after it had sat on the presidential election petition of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for eight months.
“Ei dey be keke,” “John Mahama One,” “President one touch,” “Bossu baako pe,” to wit, the one and only boss, were some of the appellations and retorts that some residents used to express their joy.
Dressed mostly in white, the residents paraded the streets smearing powder on one another as a sign of victory, hugging and laughing.
Motorbike riders and cyclists in particular, as well as drivers, draped their vehicles with white pieces of cloth and tooted their horns in jubilation, while displaying with their vehicles.
Security personnel who were deployed to the community watched on patiently as the residents celebrated.
The children were not left out as they danced to the campaign songs of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) which blurted from loudspeakers and shouted and the party’s campaign slogan, “Ei dey be keke.”
Speaking to the Daily Graphic, the acting Chairman of the Ayawaso East Constituency, Alhaji Olabode Williams, who could not hide his joy, thanked members of the constituency and the general public for believing in the court system.
He said that had strengthened democracy in Ghana, adding that ultimately, it would help build investor confidence in the country.
He also thanked members of the NPP for waiting patiently for the verdict, saying, “Ghana is for all of us. We agree to disagree and that is what democracy is all about.”
When the Daily Graphic visited the NPP Constituency Office at Nima, it was locked up and there was no activity within its immediate surroundings.
