IPP launches manifesto in Kumasi Saturday

With barely 150 days to the November 7 general election, the Independent People’s Party (IPP) will become the first political party to officially launch its manifesto on Saturday.

The launch of the 30-page manifesto at the party headquarters at Denyame in Kumasi is on the theme: “IPP Victory 2016; A new plan for jobs and wealth creation.”

Last week the National Organiser of  the ruling National Democratic Congress, Mr Kofi Adams, hinted that the 2016 NDC manifesto was ready to be launched at a date to be announced soon. The NPP’s Campaign  Manager, Mr Peter Mac Manu,  has also hinted that the NPP will launch its manifesto later in the year to avoid plagiarism while the Progressive People’s Party has adopted a 10-point agenda catologuing what it intends doing in government.

Focus of IPP’s manifesto

Disclosing this in a telephone chat yesterday, the IPP’s 2016 flag bearer, Mr Kofi Akpaloo, said the party had  workable and well-thought out policies and programmes to improve the lives of the people and was determined and committed to creating a nation that is safe and clean and where the government works for the people and opportunities created for all.

He said the IPP’s manifesto placed emphasis on “putting people’s lives first” in all its endeavours and its  vision of a safe country would be realised through a highly motivated and effective police administration.

Highlights

Throwing highlights on the manifesto, Mr Akpaloo said: “We must strive to be a nation where the cancer of corruption is eradicated and where dedicated public officials serve the interest of the people and not themselves.”

According to Mr Akpaloo, Ghana’s current unemployment rate was around 49 per cent and crime rate 42 per cent,  and blamed open corruption within the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party  as the bane of the country’s development.

In order to achieve rapid economic growth, the IPP presidential candidate said, Ghana must be a forward- thinking country that planned for the future and would become a hub of innovation and investment.

In so doing, he said the IPP would utilise technology and a reliable transport that work to advance national aspirations as well as strive to create a safe and prosperous nation.

The IPP, he said, would also connect and link communities with each other to create jobs through an affordable and reliable transport that worked.

“It is time for a government that makes the citizens proud of where they live. What we need to achieve this is an honest,  hard-working government that puts its citizens first,”  he asserted.

Change is coming

On his party’s preparation for the election, he said change was possible but cautioned that  “it will only happen if everyone who wants change votes for change.”

He, therefore, challenged Ghanaians to take ownership of the outcome of this year’s election by voting for change, saying: “Your vote is the key to start the change agenda that will stop corruption and start the real path to economic recovery and delivery as well as create jobs and make the nation Ghana a great place to live.”

“With your vote this can happen,”  Mr Akpaloo appealed to the electorate.

He called on other political parties to also launch their manifestos to enable Ghanaians to know the options available in order to make informed choices.
