He said when elected as national organiser, he would work hard to enhance the social democratic principles of the party to attract more voters to win the 2016 election.

Speaking in an interview, he told the Daily Graphic that when elected, he would not be an armchair national organiser but  would extensively visit all constituencies to meet party people to address challenges facing them.

‘’This makes my chances of winning the national organiser position something fantastic for  the party since it stands to gain from my experiences’’ he said.

Mr Tanko, who described himself “as a man who has the grassroot support,” therefore,  urged the NDC youth to have confidence in him and vote for him to become the national organiser of  the party.

He said as social democrats, the NDC members were expected to show love and affection for party members as well as non-members, saying “now is the time for the party to work vigorously for the people.”

He called on the party members to show solidarity with party members who would deliver and not to stab them in the back by calling for their removal on unsubstantiated allegations.

Mr Tanko also cautioned the party against complacency, explaining that his tour across the country meeting NDC members to explain his vision to the party and country had revealed that there was some despondency among the youth and that the party was abandoning its principles of social democracy.

According to Mr Tanko, some party youth were of the opinion that  the party machinery was not accessible to the ordinary members.

He,  therefore,  appealed to the youth in the  the NDC ‘’great family’’ not to be demoralised but  work hard to retain power in 2016.

He said it would be suicidal for the NDC to abandon its principles of social democracy and accountability, saying “if we do that, winning elections will not  be easy.”

Mr Tanko said the NDC founded on the principles of social democracy and accountability and frowned on “godfathers who think members cannot progress in the party without them.”

He also cautioned party executive to be mindful of the fact that not every party member who sought audience to see the party executive wanted to ask for  money, and urged the executive to open their doors for suggestions that would make the party grow  always, and not only during elections.
