I have not quit politics - Ras Mubarak

The 2012 National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma North in the Greater Accra Region, Mr Ras Mubarak, has dismissed media reports that he has quit politics.

Mr Mubarak, who failed to win the Ablekuma North seat in the December elections, categorically stated that he was not ready to quit politics and remained a John Mahama loyalist.

In a statement, he described as ridiculous and baseless newspaper reports that he had quit politics because he had not been offered a political appointment.

His political opponents also claimed that his decision stemmed from feelings of being sidelined by President John Mahama in the recent deputy ministerial appointments.

According to the statement, Mr Mubarak expressed anguish over what he called a misleading report published in the Herald newspaper on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 under the headline, ‘Rawlings’ Boy Quits Politics’.

The newspaper claimed  that he had made a “sudden decision to quit politics for other engagements”.

“There is absolutely no truth in the paper’s suggestion that I quit politics because of appointment. If there’s ever been a better time for young people to enter public service, it is now,” he stated.

He further stated that he had never sought for a position in government, lobbied for or asked senior party people to lobby for him to be appointed to any position.

“It is, therefore, ridiculous for a newspaper to subtly speculate that I was in contention for a deputy ministerial position and might be quitting because I feel hard done by,” he stated.

“I am not a quitter. I remain in politics as proof that there are still young people who enter politics not to get what they could but to give all that they could; who seek a common good beyond their comfort to serve their country. Indeed, I entered politics not to be something but to do something,” he declared.

He, therefore, assured the NDC family in Ablekuma North and across the country and the public that he remained absolutely committed to the NDC and remained a Mahama loyalist.
