Mr Ayariga who contested the 2012 Elections on the ticket of the PNC and had wanted a second shot as flagbearer in 2016 was defeated by Dr Edward Mahama in a closely contested election after polling 426 votes against Dr Mahama’s 492 votes.

In a radio interview on Accra based Uniiq FM, Mr Ayariga said he was treated unfairly at the party’s just ended delegates’ congress in Wa.

He therefore announced he would be contesting the 2016 General elections as a presidential candidate.

"The party does not deserve Hassan Ayariga,” he said and described the PNC as an “illegal” party.

“I am not going to endorse an illegal party anymore. I have tried to build this party. I tried to move this party from illegality and making the party become more formidable and more united,” he said.

He said he would contest the 2016 elections as a presidential candidate. “My name and face will be on the ballot box in 2016…” [sic]
