I’m broke after NDC's primaries - John Dumelo

Ghanaian actor, Mr John Dumelo, says he has become broke after contesting in the recently held primaries of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

John Dumelo contested in the primaries of NDC to represent the party as their Parliamentary candidate for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency in the Greater Accra region.

He said the primaries has had a toll on his finances as he had to spend some huge sums of money to campaign, saying that he has become financially drained as a result of the elections.

Mr Dumelo polled 758 votes to beat his contender Suzsie Afua Adoboe who had 99 votes.

The money, he explained, was used for philanthropic works including paying the school fees of some people within the constituency in the run up to the primaries.

In an interview on Accra-based Kasapa FM on Wednesday, August 28, this year, Mr Dumelo indicated that he currently does not "even have a dime left on me for the next round of campaign activities".

“I’ll have to look for money elsewhere for that exercise. As I speak with you, I’m lying flat on the ground. I need help to get back onto my feet. There’ll have to be voluntary contributions from my loved ones to see me through the next level of campaigning for the 2020 Parliamentary elections," he said.

Mr Dumelo, however, explained that the money he spent does not amount to vote buying.
